There is a saying that if you give dogs food and water, they will think you're God - but this Giant Schnauzer from the Siberian village of Tara, in Omsk region, has found out how to collect the water himself. His proud owner Alexander Matytsin, 47, said: 'Lemon is two years old now, and he started to show interest in carrying buckets when he was 11 months old.

'I take water from the well sometimes several times a day, Lemon was used to walking with me from a very early age. He watched me taking the empty buckets, filling them with water, and walking back.

'One day in late spring he was fooling around by the field where we were planting potatoes. He saw a bucket, took it and carried it around, obviously mimicking me. The next step was him taking a bucket into the mouth and carrying it on my walks to the well to get water. Then I thought why not to teach him how to pour water, if he is so keen.

'It proved to be quite easy as Giant Schnauzers are big dogs and the weight of their body if enough to push down the well handle and pump the water. Sometimes I help him, but usually he manages to stand on his two hind and press the handle with his front paws. He walks back with the water in quite a careful way, making sure it doesn't spill'.

Alexander wrapped cloth around the bucket handle to protect Lemon's teeth.

'He is a bit of a local celebrity around here. People love him and think he is quite a smart dog for helping me in such a nice way.  I can't agree more!'

The breed is known for its intelligence and loyalty to its owner, and Lemon is keen to help on other tasks, including getting the firewood ready to keep the house warm in winter - and to heat the family sauna.

'The next step was Lemon picking up logs and helping me to pile them together, or bringing them into the banya (sauna) or the house,' he said.

Giant Schnauzers are on average 70 cm tall, with a weight up to 50 kg.

Wow, what a clever dog and a feel good story , HmmmI In the Western World we have a very common saying "
" Every individual should pull their weight " it simply means > do not expect anyone else to pay for your existence. Well this big size dog definitely eats a lot ,but then you can't complain as it more than earns its B&B
B&B = Bed and Breakfast ok
