The second game of the final is held on Wednesday. It took 188 games to whittle down the 64 players to the final two.

Ushenina joined Stefanova in the final after winning the tie-break against Ju Wenjun.

The Ukrainian won the first rapid game. The Chinese had White in the second - and was very close to striking back, but did not manage to convert the winning position.

'I managed to drew in a miraculous way,'  admitted the Ukrainian. The final will be settled over four games with a possible tie-break.

A special awarding ceremony was organised for the bronze medallists - with Siberian caps with ear-flaps as extra presents.

Hal Bond, chief arbiter of the World Championship, said: 'Everything is just fine. We have a very good team of experienced arbiters, working together from the first day.

'I am visiting Khanty-Mansiysk for the fifth time and am always happy to be here, because the level of organisation is very high'.

Why is this chess championship not getting better coverage....? Khanty-Mansiysk - are you promoting it properly? Thanks to Sib Times for mentioning it but mainstream media ignores it, except looks like in India. This event should be getting good focus round the world. What's wrong here? Anyone know?
