When it is ready, about 30 million tonnes of cargo will be transported by this route, which connects Russia with China and countries of the Asia-Pacific Region. Picture of an old bridge over Amur near Khabarovsk, via khabara.ru

In Russia it is called the Amur, in China the Heilong Jiang, meaning Black Dragon.

'The further development of cooperation with China we connect with construction of a railroad bridge Nizhneleninskoye-Tongjiang,' said Vladimir Oshchansky deputy premier of Russia's Jewish Autonomous Region.

'All project work is over. Now we are preparing for construction of the first ever railroad bridge at the border across the Amur River,' he said at the Harbin International Trade-Economic Fair, according to Itar-Tass.

'The bridge will be over 6.5 kilometres long. When it is ready, about 30 million tonnes of cargo will be transported by this route, which connects Russia with China and countries of the Asia-Pacific Region'. Earlier in June, China Communications Construction Co Ltd and the Builders' Association of Russia signed a memorandum of understanding on constructing the bridge.
