Chinese money tops 45% of foreign investment in the region, one of a number of Far East areas prioritised for fast track development by the Russian government.

'The total number of companies with Chinese investment among all enterprises with foreign investments exceeds 45 percent,' said an official in the Khararovsk government. Over 300 enterprises with investment from China are operating in the Territory.'

Chinese business is investing in trade, catering, construction, wood processing and exploration work, said a report from the Sputnik news service. Total Chinese investment into joint projects in Khabarovsk is 1.2 billion rubles, or $16.5 million at current exchange rates.

One example is a joint multi-company cooperation agreement signed in 2015 to construct an assembly plant for Chinese heavy duty Howo trucks in Komsomolsk.

you are right, there should be more investments and extensive cooperation, but there are not many projects that may look feasible and local executives are so slow in the uptake.

According to Sputniknews, Japan´s Lida Group Holdings will invest in the construction of a wood processing plant near Vladivostok.

So, it is not just China investing in the Russian Far East.

The name of the regions, as Deripaska said, should change from "Far East". It could be called just "Russian Pacific" or "Pacific Russia" "Rospacific", for example.

Russian trade with China, and investment from China, is still very low compared to Australia, S.Korea, Japal or the US.

In 2015, Russia-China trade was just $ 95 bn. compared to $ 130 bn for Australia or $ 300 bn. to Japan....so there is still a long way.

The recent trade agreements signed between Russia and China are positive to short the gap with other countries.
