Malysh (Russian for ‘The Little One) had a new collar on, and looked well-groomed when he was noticed running about new terminal of Khabarovsk airport on 11 December.

‘He is the first dog left by its owners since the new terminal opened’, the airport’s press service said.

‘People often leave pets behind at airports after realising cost of transporting them.

'When it happens it's always somebody from an airport team who either take a pet home or ask for help with temporary place of stay'.

The ‘friendly and gentle’ dog was taken to a pet shelter where he refused to eat for several days, and looked like he was expecting his people to come back.

Its owners never returned despite multiple stories about the dog in local newspapers and social media.

The airport even recorded a special New Year video with Malysh, saying it really needed home.

There were three families that asked to have Malysh as their pet, but all new owners brought him back because the dog couldn’t bear to stay alone.

‘He gets along with everyone including cats, but he panics and starts tearing things as soon his humans go away & leave him alone’, explained Anastasia Khaustova from the airport press service.

Malysh is about one year old, he is a healthy and friendly dog ready for adoption.

It is too bad I cannot hop on a train/bus/whatever to come & pick Malysh up before lunch. Such a lovely dog. I would hug his sadness away and treat him with kindness for the rest of his days.

The tragic and disgusting part of this story is that this poor, yet gorgeous and friendly, loving dog was abandoned or simply left behind as thousands of pets are each year.

The positive and really good part of this tragedy though, is that Malysh is surrounded by wonderful, loving and caring staff at the Khabarovsk Airport (not destitute and alone on a dangerous highway etc..) and seems to be having a whale of a time with everyone!

Lets hope that Malysh finds a happy forever home soon, surrounded by devoted people who have all the time to play with him and remain by his side permanently...
